On opposing sides of the top of the body there is a small loop of rolled clay, flattened at the ends and applied to the shoulder. Through this is passed a handle of bound Japanese wisteria, with two trailing ends of different lengths. The circular, convex cover has a concave swirl in the centre and is pierced by a ventilation hole. The underside is cut back from the edge and fits inside the mouth of the pot with the flange resting on the shoulder.
