The hollow D-shaped handle has an applied silver-gilt border of straps and flowers beneath an acanthus leaf.  It terminates in two clusters of scrolls, and at the top is a large ovoid thumbpiece embossed with gadroons beneath a border of stiff leaves round a flattened ball.
